It’s time for my annual year in review. Every year I like to take this opportunity to reflect upon what I learned this year, what we as a company were able to achieve, and share my predictions on what we think 2019 might have in store for our company and our customers. The year in review blog has been a tradition at Kiefer, and I look forward to this opportunity to share my thoughts.
Best Places to Work 2018 Finalist
Well, we again were a finalist in the annual Sacramento Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” survey. This is an honor that means a lot to me. When I started Kiefer Consulting 30 years ago, I set out to build a company that was highly ethical, cared for its employees, and to create a workplace that people were genuinely excited about being a part of. I appreciate each and every employee at Kiefer Consulting and I’ve made employee satisfaction a priority. While being a finalist is very respectable, I am hoping that we break our streak next year and walk away with the Best Places to Work honors!
Top 10 IT Consulting Company Recognition (Sacramento Business Journal)
Kiefer retained our spot in the Sacramento Business Journal’s top 10 IT Consulting Companies in the Sacramento area. We now share the #7 spot and we certainly hope to make a move this year. It’s an exciting time for Kiefer and we feel like 2019 has the potential to be a growth year for us. With more organizations becoming more interested in doing more with Office 365, our team’s skill set will be in greater demand.
We Achieved Microsoft Managed Partner Status
We are a Microsoft shop. We help clients do more with Microsoft products. We have invested heavily in being a go-to firm when a client is looking for help with SharePoint, Office 365, Power BI, Microsoft Teams, etc.
We regularly have our consultants take Microsoft exams, we strive to meet all requirements to receive Microsoft certifications and we take time out of our schedules on a monthly basis to talk about what’s new, trends and how to more with Microsoft technology.
In February of this year, Microsoft awarded Kiefer with Managed Partner status. A designation reserved for only elite partners. This designation gives us greater access to Microsoft resources, partner investment funds and a stronger direct line to the organization that has helped us build this business. It’s a very exciting time for us at Kiefer.
Connecting With Our Communities
As many of you already know, the Camp Fire in Butte County was the largest and deadliest fire in California’s history. 17,000 buildings have been lost and over 52,000 people have been displaced. Our offices are located about 100 miles from the center of the damage, however, we have certainly felt the impact here in Folsom. Several Kiefer employees have deep ties to the Chico/Paradise area and we made donations to the relief effort. Our hearts are with those in Butte County and we encourage others to help out if they can. There are many organizations that are still accepting donations with 100% of the donation going directly to those in need.
This year we also held our 2nd annual winter coat drive. We worked with an organization that provides outreach to those that are homeless in our community. Our company distributed over 50 coats to those in need.
4 Practice Areas
Technology changes at an incredibly rapid pace. As a Microsoft Managed Partner, we have to stay in front of these changes.
In late 2018, we thought a lot about how to best serve our clients in 2019. We determined that the best way to do so was to invest in developing 4 practice areas that reflect our experience, talent, and reputation.
Our website has been updated, we are producing more relevant content to demonstrate our expertise, and we are working hard to help clients better understand the impact of investing in the 4 practice areas. We will be participating in more event is 2019 to showcase the talent of our team.
Our Modern Workplace consulting practice develops and deploys innovative solutions that improve how organizations communicate and share information both internally and externally.
DATA ANALYTICS AND VISUALIZATION
Our Data Analytics and Visualization consulting practice build sophisticated, yet practical tools that allow organizations to better interact with their data and enables the extraction of meaningful insights.
We are excited about all of the interest in data analytics and will be working on developing a business intelligence user group in 2019.
DATA MIGRATION AND CLOUD SERVICES
The Data Migration and Cloud Services consulting practice has expertise in helping organizations move data to the cloud as well as determining what applications could benefit from cloud-hosting.
CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS
With deep-expertise in program and project control, the Construction Management Solutions consulting practice helps organizations improve the management of information with feature-rich reporting capabilities.
A look ahead
We are optimistic. We believe that as more and more organizations move to Office 365, look to solve for pressing workflow challenges and insist on using data to make better business decisions, they will look to us and our team of experts.
We have a great team. We’ve made internal management changes to better serve clients. We brought on a new sales director in June (Melanie Dutt) and promoted our Operations Manager to a Director of Operations (Ben Cox), and established a new role, Director of Service Delivery (Doug Robbins).
We expanded the team this year and hired 2 Associate Consultants (Alem Tafete and Andrew Robbins) and a Senior Consultant (Satya Cherukumilli). We are thrilled to be building a dynamic team.
I’ve been doing this for 30 years. I love what I do. And, I appreciate the fact that I’ve been able to make so many connections. If you’ve known me for a long time, or are reading this and are getting to know me for the first time… let’s connect in 2019. Let’s meet for a cup of tea. Let’s talk about how Kiefer might be able to help you this year. I look forward to talking with you!
